charlie by the clydeOur Managing Director, Charlie Gordon’s commercial experience includes ten years on the Board of SECC Ltd , eight years on the Board of Hampden Park Ltd. and three years as Chairman of Drumchapel Opportunities Ltd. His other corporate experience includes the founding Chairmanship of Glasgow Clyde Regeneration Ltd and the founding Vice-Chairmanship of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau.  He also served on the Board of Anniesland College, the Greater Glasgow & Clyde Valley Tourist Board, the Glasgow Area Manpower Board and on the Scottish Committee of BAFTA.

After leaving school at 15 for an apprenticeship in the construction industr , Charlie went to college, then had a total of 19 years in the railway industry.

Charlie was elected as a Councillor in 1987 and in the eighteen years that followed, he held a number of senior posts, including Chairman of Strathclyde Passenger Transport Authority and Leader of Glasgow City council.

At Strathclyde Transport, Charlie led the construction of the first phase of the M77 motorway, the Regeneration of Glasgow’s Royal Exchange Square, the reconstruction of Buchanan Bus Station and major investment in Glasgow’s Suburban Rail Network ,the largest in the UK outside London.

During his time as Glasgow’s Leader, Charlie pioneered the write-off of Glasgow’s £1 Billion municipal housing debt , clearing the way for a ten year , £1.1 Billion programme of housing investment , rebuilt the City’s 28 Secondary Schools , refurbished Kelvingrove Museum & Art Gallery and kick-started the regeneration of the Clyde Waterfront , which initially levered £2.3 Billion of investment, including Glasgow’s successful International Financial Services District  (IFSD) and the outline deal for the construction of the new Riverside Museum.

During the same period, Charlie also pioneered Glasgow ‘s Film Code and Film Fund  and helped fund the first phase of Film City at Govan.

From 2005 to 2011, Charlie represented Glasgow Cathcart as a Member of the Scottish Parliament, where , among other service , he was Convenor of the Public Audit Committee and was a Front Bench Spokesperson on Transport.

From 2011 to 2012 , Charlie  chaired the interim Development Board of the Paddle Steamer Waverley, worked as a self-employed consultant, then founded Charlie Gordon Associates Ltd.
